Miss. news anchor: LGBT communities should ‘go on gaycation’ after making ‘too much’ news

A longtime Mississippi news anchor has apparently upset his station after an online post complaining about the amount of coverage dedicated to the LGBT communities.

Media blogger Jim Romenesko reported on Thursday that WLOX-TV anchor Dave Elliott (pictured above, center) wrote on Facebook that though he supported the fight for LGBT equality “in every way,” it seemed “like they’ve been in the news too much lately.”

“Maybe they should take a short break,” he continued. “Go on gaycation … just for the weekend. Enjoy yourselves!”

The station has not issued a formal statement regarding Elliott’s remarks, but did disavow them on its own Facebook page, stating that station management was not happy to receive any “free publicity” on account of Elliott’s remarks.

Granted they'll have to pay for it. And work for me. I won't hold my breath.
