DeSantis picked a fight with the LGBTQ community that went national, and could reverberate

It’s a debate that has roped in Disney, prompted a skit on Saturday Night Live and even compelled Luke Sykwalker to weigh in.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis knows how to get people talking, and usually is the one steering the conversation to favorable political ground. That’s been a tougher task with HB 1557, legislation formally known as the Parental Rights in Education act but labeled by critics the “Don’t Say Gay” bill.

DeSantis is poised to sign the bill into law. The roiling political debate generated by the legislation is certain to continue after the ink dries on the governor’s signature, though.

DeSantis and his supporters say they welcome the fight, but there are signs the governor is not as sure-footed on this issue. Polling on the bill has been mixed.

1. PTSD speechless with these backwards policies

Aware that I've worn this out somewhat here but feel it's necessary to tell. Coming of age half a century ago in a small rural area where "gay" was only ever thrown about as an epithet. Kept naïve to the point I nearly hung myself from the freeway bridge I'd made an overnight shelter. The same ignorant naivete that guides thinking "Just hide it from the kids and maybe they won't end up ____"
Westboro Baptists--- the long arm of it, had ideas on performing a "mercy killing" of the sinful element that had invaded their lily white town. They have blood on their hands.
Shit like "Don't say Gay" is exactly how hateful environments breed. Hate is easy to market, just tune in Fox Noise.
I'm glad to see the strides we've made towards equality. But frustrated with, for instance, many so-called progressives who remain silent, neutral, or even look the other way as groups they alienate are systematically disenfranchised, bullied, murdered.
Just thoughts while I'm having one of my increasingly rare moments of clarity.
