Police seeking suspects in anti-gay beating of two men in far northeast Dallas

Police are asking for help catching the men behind an anti-gay assault on two men in far northeast Dallas early Tuesday.

Two men were walking near Audelia Road and Forest Lane about 2 a.m. when five men pulled up and shouted anti-gay slurs at the men, according to police. Two of the men in the car got out brandishing baseball bats and attacked the victims, police said.

One of the victims was hit in the head four times and lost consciousness, a police report said. The other man tried to fight back and was caught in the passenger side of the attackers' vehicle and dragged a short distance, the report said.

"This violent act constituted a hate crime and is being investigated accordingly," a Dallas police statement said.

Both men suffered numerous injuries and they drove to Medical City Hospital and contacted police. They apparently did not recognize their attackers.

A detailed description of the attackers has not been provided. Police said the men were driving a dark-colored four-door vehicle -- possibly a Buick -- with tinted windows and 24-inch rims.

I used to live in Garland... used to. Not exactly the hotbed of homo-friendliness.

5. I used to wonder why my fellow gayfolks were so

damned unfriendly in the clubs in Dallas. I soon learned it seemed to be a form of traumatic shock. Dallas standoffishness is legendary, but look at what they're surrounded by.
