On this date, 1924, Nellie Tayloe Ross (D) was elected Governor of WY. First female
Governor of any state, only female Governor of WY. She later served as Director of the US Mint from 1933 to 1953.
Nellie Tayloe Riss was born 25 November 1876 in MO, and died in December 1977 in DC, age 101. She was a teacher, a Dem activist, a staunch Prohibitionist. She succeeded her husband as Governor of WY when she won a special election after he died in office.
A most remarkable woman.
