This Election Needs Lady Votes – So Make Sure Voter ID Laws Won’t Stop You!

Ladies, you simply MUST get out and vote in November. But first, you must make sure that there are no sneaky voter ID laws in your state that would block you from doing so. The National Conference of State Legislatures has put together this handy map, so check it out for more info on your state’s voter ID laws. Then go to their website to see what you need to do to make sure your voice is heard.

Vice-President Joe Biden on the 18th anniversary of the Violence Against Women Act:

Eighteen years ago today, the landmark Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) was signed into law. It was founded on the basic premise that every woman deserves to be safe from violence, and since its passage, we have made tremendous strides towards achieving that goal. We gave law enforcement and the courts more tools to combat domestic violence and hold offenders accountable. We created a national hotline to direct victims to life-saving assistance. And since VAWA passed, annual rates of domestic violence have dropped by more than 60 percent.

But we still have much work to do. Three women still die every day as a result of domestic violence. One in five women have been raped, many as teenagers, and one in six women have been victims of stalking. While women and girls face these devastating realities every day, reauthorization of a strengthened VAWA languishes in Congress. VAWA is just as important today as it was when it first became law, and I urge Congress to keep the promise we made to our daughters and our granddaughters on that day—that we would work together to keep them safe.

As a reminder of why this election so badly needs Lady Votes....Republican MO Legislature Overrides Veto of Birth Control Bill

The Republican-controlled Missouri State Legislature voted on Wednesday to override Gov. Jay Nixon's (D) veto of a bill that would allow employers and insurers to refuse to cover birth control, abortion or sterilization for moral reasons.

The State Senate overrode the governor's veto by a vote of of 26-6, while the House, which needed 109 votes to override, barely did so, by a vote of 109-45.

Nixon said at a press conference in July that he vetoed the bill because "we want families making these decisions, not insurance companies."

The bill's sponsor, Sen. John Lamping (R-Ladue), argued on Wednesday that it was important and urgent for lawmakers to override the veto because the Affordable Care Act requires most employers and insurers to cover certain preventative health services, including birth control, at no additional cost to the woman. He cited as an example the Christian-owned arts and crafts store Hobby Lobby, which announced on Wednesday that it is suing the Obama administration over the contraception mandate.
