Sudanese woman facing death for apostasy gives birth

A Sudanese woman awaiting the death penalty for abandoning her religious faith has given birth in jail near the capital, Khartoum, her lawyer has said...

...She is allowed to nurse her baby girl for two years before the sentence is carried out...

...Ms Ibrahim was also convicted of adultery on the grounds that her marriage to a Christian man from South Sudan was void under Sudan's version of Islamic law, which says Muslim women cannot marry non-Muslims.

For this the judge sentenced her to 100 lashes, which will reportedly be carried out when she has recovered from giving birth.

Let's have a cheer for patriarchal religions everywhere!

but please, I've yet to hear of another religion, including Christianity, executing

a woman for "apostasy". Not in the West, not in the last three centuries at least.

This has to be said, because holding all "patriarchal religions" responsible

for this kind of shit is False Equivalence in the extreme.

Islam is in a class by itself here...Sorry if that's not PC.

The oppression and threats to women's lives is worldwide and manifests itself in any number of ways that are deeply rooted in the misogynist teachings of patriarchal religions. Whether it's a woman who dies or is thrust into poverty because she's refused contraception or an abortion, or a woman who is stoned to death for having the audacity to make her own life choices, no one's hands are clean on this inexcusable state of women's affairs. You can kill them softly by teaching and showing them that from birth they are inferior to men or you can kill them outright for transgressing some rule written by men to control women. it's the drip, drip, drip of psychological, emotional, spiritual and physical abuse in toto that has created the global war on women, not just the abhorrent actions of its most extreme fanatics.

and I'm sorry, but there really IS no comparison to the influence religion

has on women in the West, to that which it has in so many of the Islamic

countries.

It allows the "West" to divert attention from the fact that 50% of its population is also oppressed by the dogmas set about in the patriarchal religious texts. "See! We're not as bad as THEY are!" That doesn't absolve any particular society or culture from claiming that they also have played a role in this global war on women. As long as women's lives are defined and ruled by the rules laid down in religious texts and in the case of the West, primarily Abrahamic texts, we have a major hurdle to overcome. It's the elephant in the room that not even many women want to address, at least not publicly.

So I'm not even sure what it is you want here. Of course I can stand and shout, "Radical Islam is barbaric to women!" Now we can turn our attention to just how the war on women has been nurtured, shaped and promoted by patriarchal religions around the globe.

and no, difficulties in obtaining abortion and contraception do not

even belong in the same conversation.

I don't "want" anything but a cessation of pc bullshit, because, anxious as you

are to take the onus off Islam with lame attempts to conflate ANYTHING

in "the west" with this barbarism, it doesn't pass the laugh test.

Really?

Okay then, if that's the way you're determined to interpret what I wrote it doesn't really matter what I post -- you're not hearing me nor are you interested in listening. Ergo, investing any more of my time with this "conversation" is a waste.

and having "listened" to you, through several posts now,

I agree that further discussion between us is not worth the time for either of us.
