HUNTSVILLE, Alabama Carrying a yellow "Just say no to Hobby Lobby" poster, Huntsville resident LaVerne Roxby said it was her daughter, granddaughter and the girls who follow behind who inspired her to participate in a protest this afternoon against a controversial Supreme Court ruling.

The SCOTUS ruled 5-4 last week that businesses with religious convictions should not have to cover certain contraception for their employees. Hobby Lobby, an arts and crafts chain owned by an evangelical Christian family, had opposed four types of emergency birth control.

(4,309 posts)Religious beliefs should end where women's health begins. It is a slippery slope. I hope the protests continue.

(19,964 posts)The Hobby Lobby ruling has only emboldened the enemies of women's rights. We've already seen that slippery slope manifest itself in a number of new cases. We MUST keep fighting back. Kudos to all the women and men who are taking to the streets.

(4,309 posts)I went to the movies in Columbia, MD last night and saw there was HL there I never even knew existed. Just 30 minutes from home. Wonder if there have been any protests there. Very important that we fight back and be visible on this. Companies all over the country will use this decision to stop providing birth control and that is just plain WRONG!
Birth control is health care and health care is a basic human right. At least it should be in the United States in 2014!

I am really so pissed and disgusted over this SC decision I am so glad that so many women (and men) are taking to the streets over this.
I can never understand it. They are always against sex education and contraception, but are they not the best ways to avoid abortion? Of course I totally believe in safe and legal abortion but I don't get their rationale.
