Last month the United States Women's National Team earned $2 million for winning its first FIFA World Cup since 1999, while the German men's championship team earned $35 million in 2014. Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA), and Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-CA) introduced resolutions that demand FIFA to close its gender pay gap. Urge your representative to cosponsor the FIFA equal pay resolutions (S.Res.222/H.Res.364)!

(5,417 posts)I dont think the revenue from FIFA womens world cup even comes close to the FIFA mens world cup.
With the higher revenue I would expect the men to be paid more.

(5,829 posts)The "total payout for the Womens World Cup this year will be $15 million, compared with the total for the mens World Cup last year of $576 million, nearly 40 times as much." (Politico)
"In aggregate, first division womens soccer players are making 98.6 percent less than professional soccers male cohort, according to Fusion, making it one of the starkest gender pay divides in any workplace.
TV execs partly to blame. They don't think women's sports have an audience. Yet US womens soccer consistently sold out at stadiums this year.
FIFA Women's Soccer World Cup final was seen on TV by an average of 25.4 million.
U.S. mens team is currently ranked 27, compared with the world-champion women. FIFA's misogyny ignores success.
BTW, men only play on grass. Women were forcd to play on atificial turf - and the abrasions, etc on their legs & arms sho how little FIFA respects women's soccer.

(5,417 posts)The mens wors cup has been said to have about 1 billion viewers. That number is proably a bit inflated, and 900 million is a bit more accurate according to some.
