Related: About this forumstill having osteoarthritic pain and considering referral to a pain managment specialist.
My daughter has suggested that I ask my PCP for a referral. I am seeing a rheumatologist whose pain pills just made the dizzy. I am in Physical Therapy twice a week and am starting my 4th week with them tomorrow.
And I'm at the end of my rope. I'm still in constant pain. Since any opioid is going to be nixed (the only successful drug I have taken), and I can only get partial relief from practicing good back hygeine (not sitting too long at the computer, keeping my back straight when I walk or sit) and a muscle relaxer at bedtime, I am going to have to do something else.
My daughter has fibromyalgia and has had to seek a pain management specialist. She, too, was at wit's end before she got the referral.
Has anyone experienced success with one of these specialists? I am pretty sure Medicare will cover it...

(14,732 posts)twenty years - mostly unsuccessfully - until I saw a Pain Management Group at a hospital. It made all the difference. With one adjustment to the meds I was on, I have been essentially pain-free for the past 10 years. Don't wait- do it now. You'll be glad you did.

There are a lot of non-opioid treatments out there nowadays...I hope you find the relief you seek.

(63,912 posts)It involves seratonin. It makes you not care about pain, basically. She says her dad (my ex husband) is taking them as a tranquilizer, but they are beneficial for pain management also.
Any ideas about that?

(3,888 posts)I know it sounds crazy but that juice has rejuvenated my wife and my mother-in-law, both have suffered from joint pain.
The juice can be found in supermarkets.

(3,888 posts)I think it helps insomnia and makes one feel more energetic too, besides attacking joint pain.

(3,888 posts)My family is taking way fewer pain pills. We are sold on the juice's value.

(3,888 posts)The health food stores do carry a concentrate form. It works well too.
My wife had had the shot in her back and it wore off. Then we discovered this juice.
She has dumped most of her pills and is moving around better than she has in years.
My M-I-L is also moving much better. She is 88 and has has limited mobility for years.
I think that you need the equivalent of 16 ounces a day for the maximum effect.
Good luck.

(4,482 posts)The pain in my hip joints is gone, though i haven't tried walking on uneven terrain yet. That used to cause the most pain.
Thank you for posting this information!

(3,888 posts)I can't say enough about the magical pain-relieving quality of this juice.
I wish I had discovered it years ago.
We drink both the juice and the concentrate to equal 16 ounces per day.
And I've grown to actually like the taste. Like raw pie cherries.
It's sort of expensive but better for you than pills. At least in my non-medical opinion.
