Went to the doctor and I have an infection. And a tooth that needs to be pulled. Not the best outcome but certainly not the worst! Thanks everyone!

I know this is a strange question but I have recently noticed that I have a growth in the back of my mouth between my upper and lower jaw line. It feels like I have a tooth coming in but I had my wisdom teeth out long ago. I'm 37. I have read about things called toris that come in usually near your bottom teeth but I'm not sure they grow where this is.
Here is the weird part... I had to get a growth removed from my throat about 10 years ago that turned out to be cartilage. The doctor was baffled by it but that's what it was. I grew cartilage in my throat. Is it possible I'm growing it in my mouth now? I'm going to the doctor on Monday I suppose unless someone tells me this is normal. Thoughts? Suggestions?

(979 posts)In your mouth if you don't mind my asking?

(36,295 posts)The upper one is much farther back, by the molars.
I know they're tori because the dentists ID'd them. He also said they're not a big problem.
Unpleasant to discover, but not a big deal after that.
But at least they are not painful?

(979 posts)How young? And did It come on suddenly?
I guess it was there when my permanent teeth started to come in. They removed my soft palate to remove it then sewed it back in. It felt weird.
The body is a strange thing for sure.

(16,360 posts)It's a bit of a problem because he sometimes bites it and then it bleeds. We are taking him in for a tooth cleaning and they are going to lop it off when he is under.

(979 posts)I hope mine is similar!

(16,360 posts)It's probably no big deal, I have had some weird medical problems myself, like having to have a salivary gland removed.

(4,066 posts)Supernumerated tooth. I grew an extra tooth in the roof of my mouth. Maybe you have something similar. Nothing to worry over. Just go see the doctor or dentist.
Hang in there.

(9,535 posts)One got infected during sinus surgery(a breathing tube nicked it). The other got cut by a dental x-ray and also became necrotic.
If they are not causing problems, and they are tori, they will just leave them alone.
My daughter had an extra tooth come in on the roof of her mouth in her teens and had to ave it removed. These things are not uncommon.
