Influenza cases are on the rise as fewer people practice masking and social distancing

COLUMBIA — Influenza cases are on the rise as COVID-19 mitigation strategies disappear.

Medical Director of Infection Control and Prevention Dr. Christelle Ilboudo at MU Health Care said a combination of more people traveling, reduced interest in the flu shot, and relaxed COVID mitigation strategies are contributing to the rise in flu cases.

Last year, the number of flu cases was down across the country as people took precautions, such as masking due to COVID-19.
