Covid: Deadly Omicron should not be called mild, warns WHO

The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned against describing the Omicron variant as mild, saying it is killing people across the world.

Recent studies suggest that Omicron is less likely to make people seriously ill than previous Covid variants.

But the record number of people catching it has left health systems under severe pressure, said WHO chief Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

"While Omicron does appear to be less severe compared to Delta, especially in those vaccinated, it does not mean it should be categorised as mild," Dr Tedros told a press conference on Thursday.

"Just like previous variants, Omicron is hospitalising people and it is killing people.

from my life. I live in a rural area of california. More mountain than flat.Trees, Beef, Tourism and illicet mj grows the main drivers of our local econmy.
Anyway, I just ran into an old friend whom I've not seen a year +.
Manages the local hospitals nurses. Pretty shitty job aparantly.
This woman has a PHD in her profession, Holds a masters in law. You get the idea.
Anyway, saw her socially tonight first time in 2 years.
No masks.
Poor woman was out of her mind. Drunk for the first time in, yeah, right.
Hospital is at full capacity, Covids on guernies in the hallways. Management still insists on electives because, y'know $$$$. Just ordered "storge" units but cant tell anyone...
"Whatever you do my friend, do not get sick", she said to me. "However, if you do, you should wait until you are sick enough to get to the ICU, They have a bed or two left."

2022's gonna be fun.
