"Dark Winds," 2022 AMC Series based on Hillerman novels, to be set on Navajo Nation

From Indian Country Today, 8/31/2021:

Series based on Hillerman novels to be set on Navajo Nation

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — Production of a six-episode television series based on crime novels by the late author Tony Hillerman is under way in New Mexico, the State Film Office announced Tuesday.

A psychological thriller set in the Four Corners region of the Southwest, Dark Winds centers on two Navajo Nation police officers trying to solve a double murder in the Four Corners region.

Shooting will take place on the Navajo Nation, in Santa Fe, and in other locations through November 2021. Plans are for the series to premiere some time next year. Chris Eyre, director of the movie Smoke Signals, is directing the pilot.

I think they are available on DVD and Amazon so they might be able to be streamed also. Haven't checked. There are 2 or 3 of them.

First because Tony Hillerman novels are pretty good, and second, filming in the native lands might bring more tourist dollars and filming permit fees into the area.

Press release here: https://nmfilm.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/NMFO_PressRelease_DarkWinds.pdf

The production will employ approximately 200 New Mexico crew members and over 275 New Mexico background and extras.

“We are ecstatic that AMC is being so intentional about telling this story in an authentic way by creative talent whose work speaks for itself, with a Native American director from New Mexico, as well as Native American writers, actors, and locations. Dark Winds is a series that must be made in New Mexico – and we welcome the production and AMC to our state with open arms,” Amber Dodson, Director, New Mexico Film Office, said.

Shooting will take place at "various locations around Santa Fe, Española, Pueblo of Cochiti, Pueblo of Tesuque, and the Navajo Nation." I'm especially glad to hear about shooting taking place within native communities.
