After "Incendies," another good Quebec movie is "Monsieur Lazhare."

After a fifth grade teacher hangs herself in her classroom just before the start of the school day (so that one of the children finds her), the principal needs a substitute fast. In walks Monsieur Lazhare, an immigrant from one of France's former North African colonies, claiming to be an experienced teacher.

Although he fumbles in trying to impose the kind of classical French education that he received on a class of modern Canadian children, he soon wins their trust and admiration for his compassion and his genuine interest in their welfare as they heal from the trauma of their former teacher's suicide.

But there's always a catch, isn't there?

If so, yes, I know it's out on DVD.

If you're in the U.S., it's currently on Netflix streaming.

Incendies either because I'm wary of a movie taking place in a place with human rights violations.
