"Wreck" on Hulu
In this six-episode, British comedy/thriller series, young Jamie Walsh takes a job on a huge luxury liner called "Sacramentum" to investigate the death of his sister, who had worked on the ship three months earlier, and had reportedly committed suicide. I found the series very compelling, with an engaging young cast of well-trained actors and genuinely unlikable villains, and a clever storyline. The story speeds along, sprinkled with moments of young love, ridicule of cruise life, class warfare, and the search for the truth of what's really going on on that big boat, which is horrific.
I've seen two movies recently that deal with the same basic subject matter, in the same horror/satire vein: The Menu and Triangle of Sadness. But both were less articulate and more tentative about their class-warfare message. If you like thrillers with unlikely heroes, some clever plot twists, a wry point of view, and if you don't mind a lot of gore, then you might like Wreck.
