Netflix streaming: did I miss a memo or something?

About a week ago I noticed that when I'm streaming netflix on my laptop, if I don't move the cursor approximately every 15 seconds or so, the screen dims slightly and an episode guide appears in the top left corner of screen. The toolbar at the bottom of the screen is also much smaller than it was before.

Was it something I did? Any comments will be appreciated.

Hmmm...I haven't changed my settings, and it doesn't do this on any other webpage. Sheldon Cooper Oct 2014 #2

Check the timing on when your screen saver kicks in or when your computer goes to sleep. Even though there is action on the screen, sometimes the computer doesn't recognize it as action since neither mouse, nor keyboard are moving.

But thanks for the suggestion - I'll double check my settings!
