"El Camino Christmas." One zany movie.
Here's part of my review:
It sounds like it could be a sequel of a movie called "El Camino," a film about a bunch of greasers. Believe me, it's not. It's a very off-the-wall movie that's very entertaining.
Here's a link to the rest of the review and a trailer:

It's streaming on Netflix.

(12,157 posts)I only know that word as a slur against Latinos. It is as offensive to me as the N word for African Americans or the K word for Jews and so forth. So what do you mean by it? Should I alert? Should you edit?

(22,720 posts)I've never heard it in reference to Latinos. But if you're totally offended by it, I'll change it. What term do you propose I use?

(12,157 posts)shrunk to fit 501 Levis with 6 inch cuff, black pointed shoes, tight tee shirt with cigarette pack rolled up in the sleeve and hair heavily greased combed straight back complete with duck tails. It seems that your definition is predominant, but I never heard it used for those guys. They were punks, hoods or delinquents. At least in Texas in the 1950s these guys would think you were talking about Latinos if you called them greasers.
The odd thing is most men used some sort of grease on their hair in those days. It was Wildroot, Brylcreem, brilliantine or the heavy duty pomade. Vitalis did an ad campaign about losing that greasy kids stuff. Anyway sorry for jumping on your use of the word. I just can't get past it as an ethnic slur.

The only Latino we knew then was Rickey Ricardo on I Love Lucy.

(12,157 posts)There have been Mexican people in my life for ever. I ran across The Racial Slur Database which states:
Greaser Mexicans Used as early as the battle of the Alamo in 1836.

That site and especially that page is quite disgusting.

(22,720 posts)I grew up in the suburbs of Detroit. And it was a common term. Not racist at all.

Tim Allen must have a thing for Christmas movies, with Christmas With the Kranks and three Santa Clause movies also. Ho, ho, ho!
PEACE!

(16,863 posts)The movie is nether zany nor is it a call back to other Xmas movies. This is an extremely somber movie, dont go into it expecting a comedy. Tim Allen is incredible....an amazing performance. But this is NOT a Christmas movie!
bif
(22,720 posts)And it takes place during the Christmas season. But it's not a feel-good Christmas movie.
