If you like British crime dramas, then check out "Happy Valley"

I recently came across it on Netflix and I'm glad I did. Right now it has 2 seasons each 5 episodes. Season 1 2014 and Season 2 2016. There is some indication there will be a Season 3 released later this year or next year. But an excellent show.

From Wlkipedia

Happy Valley is a British crime drama television series filmed and set in the Calder Valley, West Yorkshire in Northern England. The series, starring Sarah Lancashire and Siobhan Finneran, is written and created by Sally Wainwright, and directed by Wainwright, Euros Lyn, and Tim Fywell. The first series debuted on BBC One on 29 April 2014, and the second series debuted on 9 February 2016. In May 2015, Happy Valley won the BAFTA Award for Best Drama Series.[1]

But if IIRC some of the performers and production staff could not
come to terms on another season so it's still on indefinite hold.

As of 7/13/2018

Happy Valley won’t be back until at least the end of 2018

Executive producer Nicola Shindler dashes the hopes of fans…but she does confirm that Sarah Lancashire WILL return as Sergeant Catherine Cawood for the new run.

Acclaimed BBC1 police drama Happy Valley will not be returning until the end of 2018, executive producer Nicola Shindler revealed today.

Shindler, whose company Red Productions makes the drama, said Happy Valley writer Sally Wainwright is working on another project for BBC1, which partly explains the delay in bringing the show back.

She wouldn’t disclose any new details about the series, but did reveal at a Broadcasting Press Guild lunch on Wednesday that there were also creative reasons for waiting on a third series of Happy Valley.

Shindler also said that Sarah Lancashire was keen to reprise her role as Sergeant Catherine Cawood despite rumours that she had been unenthusiastic about a return.

I like the mixture of a strong woman, who feels things, crimes that are solved and some really dramatic twists and turns. At least that is the way I see it. I have been watching it on PBS.

(but so was Laura Fraser, the evil Lydia from Breaking Bad; could not stand her)

For me, both actresses, Flanneran and Lancashire, will forever be their characters in Happy Valley. I've seen both in several other things, and it just never feels as right as in Happy Valley.
