Addiction & Recovery
Related: About this forumOn my own for the last six days. And wasn't even tempted to drink.
And my wife's going out of town for a long weekend in a couple weeks. Not worried at all. It really is getting easier. Although I have to admit, I rewarded myself my eating a lot of crappy food! Oh well, much better than drinking!

(10,252 posts)That little voice in your head that says "I need a drink" stops telling you that. Now my little voice says "I need a cookie," which as you noted is better than the former.
I used to drink too much. Now I have no interest in getting drunk. Given what a 5th of good whiskey costs these days, I'm saving money too.
Congratulations on staying clean and sober. I recommend that every day you sit down and contemplate and reinforce your self-discipline to be free of alcoholism. A little 15 minute review of all the harms you brought on yourself by getting drunk, and the positive effects and better relationships that you now experience by staying sober. Then reaffirm that you freely choose to not drink til you're drunk any more. And that you are strong enough and smart enough to solve all the problems and difficulties that come your way without getting drunk to blot out the pain.
Again, congratulations on staying clean and sober!

(22,802 posts)I review the day and think of all the positive things that happened to me. However, I sometimes fall asleep before I get to that!

BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I lucked out on that score mainly because I never liked the taste. And Im very grateful for that, as superficial as it is. Besides, chocolate is plenty dangerous enough.
