Anybody else using a Navage for chronic sinus infection?

I bought one on the "you might want to try it; other than (more) surgery I don't have much to offer you" recommendation of my ENT. It's like a neti pot with suction, and I think it might be helping. I am having trouble using it the way you're supposed to, though, and I wondered if anyone had any tips for me. I've watched youtube videos, which haven't helped much. My problem is that I can't get the right "seal" to make it a closed system. I always have a lot of salt water running down my throat instead of into the collection module, and it causes an unpleasant sensation of choking. I've found it works *sometimes* if I hold my breath, but that's clearly not something I can do for the entire process. Any suggestions?

50 years of sinus infections. Irrigation pump helped. C.P.A.P. with heated humidifier works best. 3Hotdogs Aug 2018 #7

I've had many surgeries, including the dreaded Caldwell-Luc procedure. The last one opened my maxillary sinuses, and they drain beautifully--they should; you could put a fist up there! The problem now is the sphenoid sinuses that are up between your eyes and the bridge of your nose. I'm 71 now, and not looking for more surgery.

But I agree--that maxillary sinus opening was wonderful, and its effects have lasted over 40 years.

I have had 3 sinus surgeries and had tubes put in my ears last week so I can empathize with your issues.

I switched over to the Navage a few months ago after using the SinusPulse for over a decade. I much prefer the Navage as it does not put as much pressure on the ears and uses suction to irrigate the sinus cavities.

I am not sure but I think the Navage has different size nasal "pillows" that can be purchased. For me the standard ones are perfect. Make sure you are keeping your head looking forward and not facing downwards. And don't be afraid to push the pillows into the nasal passages to get a good seal.

As for the saline running down your throat this will get better over time - it did for me at least. It is hard to explain but you have to kind of close off the back of your throat. I kind of place the back of my tongue against the roof of my mouth if that makes sense.

I would highly recommend the Navage but there is no doubt that it takes some getting used to if you are new to irrigation.

I hope this helps and good luck!!

I'll keep at it. There's no question it works; it's good to know that somebody has mastered it!

Recommended by my functional medicine person. Works for me, for years. Daily application [almost daily anyway]

Coconut oil is anti bacterial and anti viral
