I feel lower than dirt. Stupid and embarrassed

I go out for a month tomorrow. My boss, correctly, wants my voice message to reflect that. We have, to me, a complicated phone system. Even calling IT to reset my phone to a temporary PIN, I did not hear a prompt telling me to change my PIN. I was on my cell, talking to the tech, fiddling with the phone. I thought I changed it, but didn't when I called after work.

My boss seemed mad. I feel like a stupid idiot. There's something wrong with me. I cannot stand this type of stuff anymore. So, I screwed it up.

I was so rattled, I forgot what I needed at the store after work. I'm disassociating. I haven't felt this bad in a long time.

Most people actually do forget to breathe regularly when under stress. A few deep breaths, in through the nose, fill your lungs entirely, then slowly out through your mouth in a controlled exhale...repeat about 7-8 times.

It also helps to remember that 100 years from now, absolutely no one alive is going to care at all, about anything happening today (well...with the exception of the total lack of action on climate change, bit thats going on all of our heads, not you individually)!!!

In al seriousness though, taking those deep breaths and centering yourself on your priorities is a very good way to handle things and if nothing else, it usually makes me feel better anyway! Good luck and remember you still have value no matter what!

issues. If a system is not user friendly, it us the fault of the company, not you.

You’re not stupid, you just made a mistake. You probably had a lot on your mind as you were preparing to leave. And those damn phone systems are a pain in the ass.

Please take care of yourself and try not to worry too much about the phone recording. There’s nothing wrong with you. We all make mistakes. Everything’s going to be okay.

with yourself. In the scheme of things what these mistakes are are very small indeed.

The worst thing is the lies we tell ourselves. And I agree with the conscious breathing. I actually thinking mindful breathing meditations help tremendously.

You are OK. Really.

I recommended Recovery International. They have a website and a FB page and they helped me more than any other programs.

And when it happens I tend to blame myself, only to find out later, sometimes, that it was the system that was messing up.

It's especially embarrassing at work. I'm fortunate in that I have colleagues and IT support who are supportive and affirming.

Even so, I often feel stupid when confronted with some IT issue--including working the whistles and bells on my phone.

I also find when i confess my digital cluelessness, and even exaggerate it some, I often get a sympathetic response. A little humorous self-deprecation can go a long way.

Hang in there! And best wishes.

thanks for your support. My boss sent out an email to everyone saying it's be out, cc'd me (to induce guilt? Passive-aggression?) Talking about how they'll have scheduling issues. Wow
