As some know.

My 40+ year old son has mental issues. Talking to his self, seeing people who aren’t there, and worrying about everything. He used to have a normal phone. But would look at the news and misinterpreted about everything. If something was happening across the country or even in other countries he would think it was happening right here. So we took away his phone. We don’t have the news on in the living room. He still worries about the weather. But it’s manageable.

He decided he was going to use his bicycle to go to a corner store during the summer heat of the day. He doesn’t drive. He had a heatstroke and luckily someone saw him on the side of the road. Then called the ambulance. He had a problem telling the emt’s and hospital staff how to get ahold of us. We had a lot of problems trying to find out where he was. He’s only done it that one time. But it shook me up.

After that I started looking at some of the kids phones. I ended up getting a Gabb phone. The main reason is it has an app I installed on my phone so I can see where he’s at. He can text, phone, listen to music, and check the weather. He can’t install new apps. Emergency responders can access emergency numbers from the locked screen. He’s really happy about it. Keeps it with him all the time. There are programs you can use to see where someone is at but they have all the stuff I don’t want him to have on the phone. So far it works great.

Only problems I had was during initial setup the phone at first didn’t work and one other problem. It took some time to get the company to enable it. Then it took awhile to get the app on my phone to work. There was another problem with billing and them not sending information to the people who confirm and somehow connect the two together. I’m not sure why that was a problem. You go through several steps to do that yourself and really shouldn’t need someone at their office to do that. They admitted it was a problem on their side. After that it seemed all good. But every so often it would alert me he’s out of the area around the house I set for him. This seemed to coincide when the website was down. Just my opinion they shouldn’t be dependent on each other. All that said I’m still glad I got it for him. The goof ups on his location seems to be in the past.

So it seems to be a good phone for someone you worry about walking off randomly if you think they would keep it on them.

They might search for kid safe phones. There’s also programs you can install on an existing phone and other phones that have different options. It’s all according to what they want or need. The Gabb phone just seemed the best option for me. You do have to buy the phone up front and can only use it on their network. There are different plans. So if someone won’t be using it much or doesn’t care about the music there’s a lower cost monthly option.
