Geeze, for the first time in well over a year I ate 2 extra crispy wings from KFC

I was kind of treating myself.

Those suckers are 190 calories each!!!

I wish I looked it up beforehand. I would have definitely gotten something else for cheat day!

I usually check everything, either in the grocery store or online if I am ordering from a restaurant.

what you eat and waiting for that ONE day when you'd give in to a craving-- is to decide on one thing, go get it, and it turns out to be awful due to a "bad lot" or the like. Obviously, no one else can understand what seems like a total overreaction to a single bad meal, but damn. It is so much more than that! They have no idea!

The first bite was good and then the rest was sickening sweet and I felt sick

It's amazing how your taste buds change. I always loved Reese's. Now I don't like sweets altogether. I suppose I should be grateful for that.

... because despite being "white meat", they have a lot of fat. That's not a bad thing, really, but you do have to be aware of it.

If you are watching carbs, the extra-crispy coating is very high in carbs, but the original recipe is actually not too bad. I mean, I love the extra-crispy, but no the glucose spike!

Remember that carbs stimulate a massive insulin response. And even if you are not diabetic, insulin inhibits lipolysis (fat metabolism).

Calories matter, of course, but not all calories are the same.

I've been making myself 1/2 sandwiches with cheese and ham or just cheese. I love them but I do remember when I was on a low carb diet the weight came off much easier than it is now.

I love my carbs too, and really miss some of them. But when I was diagnosed with T2D, I was determined to beat it. I almost exactly one year out from diagnosis. Low carb really worked in fixing my blood glucose, and I also lost a tone of weight (135 lbs and counting).

When I reach my goal of sticking to hard-core low carb until the end of this year, I plan to explore reintroducing some low carb versions of some favorites back in to my diet and see how I do.

Gastric bypass. A lot of the reason was severe asthma, (which is not talked about much but obesity makes asthma much worse. The fat inside your abdomen pushes against the stomach and the stomach acids end up in your lungs).

It's not at all been an easy fix. I still write down everything I consume on the Myfitnesspal. And after I started doing that I can easily see how consumed too much while thinking I was being "good"

For me, my keto-friendly go-to, cheese, can really pack on the calories. I also find it very easy to over-consume nuts, another favorite snack.

I had a terrible case of GERD before..... I had an almost constant cough from exactly what you are talking about. That's another thing that has almost completely resolved for me. I almost never have heart-burn now and it used to be a constant companion.

Buy wings at the market.
Dip in melted butter or oil and coat with Parmesan and spices. Bake in a non-stick foil pan for an hour. Just about zero carbs and they're delicious.
