snip--"COLD BREW COFFEE RATIO
For every 1 cup of water you will want to use 1/4 cup of coffee. You can scale the recipe up to make as much cold brew as you want, so long as you stick to the ratio of 1/4 cup coffee per 1 cup of water.
I usually make my cold brew in quart size mason jars and 3 cups of water plus 3/4 cup coffee grounds fit perfectly in a jar.
snip--"HOW LONG TO STEEP COLD BREW COFFEE
Once your coffee and water are well mixed, let the mixture sit for 12-18 hours to allow the coffee to infuse into the water. The ideal time to steep your cold brew is between ***14 and 18 hours.** This will give you the best cold brew flavor without the bitterness that could come from steeping too long.
snip--"HOW TO STRAIN COLD BREW
The last step is to strain the mixture to remove the coffee grounds. Place a fine mesh strainer over a large batter bowl, liquid measuring cup or bowl. Its easiest if you strain the coffee into a container that is easy to pour from so that you can then transfer it to a storage container. I strain my coffee into this batter bowl.
I keep mine in the fridge as it brews & I store the cold brew in the fridge. I pour the ground free brew back into the washed out mason jar for storage.
from the marked area for my taste, 14-15 hrs works.
Occasionally I do use a flavored coffee.
edited to add, I make the cold brew for iced coffee the day before. I find that if I pour hot coffee over ice cubes, it tastes bitter to me.

(23,337 posts)coffee in cans at Costco. Its pretty darned good. The cans, case and the plastic covering are all recyclable
which is important to me.
I pour a can over ice into a tall glass and put a float of slightly sweet cream with a sprinkle of cardamom over the top. The cream drizzles down into the cold brew as it settles. Its as good as Starbucks and coats pennies. Im not looking for any challenges in the morning
theres always a scramble to get animals fed, plants watered in this heat, the kiddo squared away for the day and myself in some kind of shape to go to work. So, I hear you about mornings

(23,337 posts)The cans say its coffee from Ecuador. Ive seen lots of options in bottles and cartons at the regular grocery store too. Some in the refrigerated section and some shelf stable ones in the coffee aisle that need refrigeration after theyre opened. Im kind of infatuated with it. I hope you find one you like!

I'm full of inertia this morning, but need to get moving and do some things in town before it gets too hot.

(35,749 posts)I have a pancake mix that only requires water. Would be breakfast in about 5-8".
Well, this morning I had no breakfast at all due to plants needing to be watered in this heat. But when I came home I was so happy to be reminded of the big pot of mint tea I'd made yesterday from garden spearmint mint.
I strained it and put one jug out in the sun because I added wild orange Tazo to it.
Iced and sweetened the other and am now cooling down and very much enjoying it.
