I have the older Mk4 and have no desire to upgrade, but it's interesting to see the improvements. If a $100 thermometer isn't your thing the same company offers several instant read alternatives in the $20 or less range that still perform quite well and I would recommend them over pretty much anything you'll find at local retailers.

(36,827 posts)It takes about 3 seconds for mine to stabilize which doesn't sound like much, but when you're trying to find the coldest spot in a cut of meat it's a big improvement. I'm not sure if it's worth a 50% premium in price to everyone, but for some it will.

for anybody thinking about a good thermometer - it seems like a lot of money but the savings on a few ruined meals will add up to that fast!

(36,827 posts)Their $20 models actually perform quite well. They still read very accurately after about 5 seconds or so and are as reliable as they come. I have bought 3 of them over the years. The first eventually failed, but not until I had it for something around 5 years or more.

(55,019 posts)who knew thermometer products could get addictive?
I have bought a dot with a couple probes, several hot mats and spatulas, a thermopop, a couple of the little zipper pull thermometers and the thermopen. I can easily see getting all carried away with the multiprobe wifi bbq devices. LOL

(36,827 posts)I have a multi-channel thermometers which accept K and T type probes and a multitude of probes to go with them. In addition to that I have a data logger which can be programmed to record temperature readings over time for two channels. I also have a few different BBQ temperature devices with remote wireless capability and alarm.
