My daughter and I are disagreeing whether salmon can be cooked in the microwave.
What say you, DU?

(2,539 posts)It can but should not be radiated in a microwave.

(15,124 posts)But I'm not much of a microwave cooker anyway. Mostly used for warming up leftovers.
The key with salmon (I'm a filet fan over steaks) is to not overcook it. That could be difficult in the zapper.

(2,533 posts)Microwave salmon-unless it is for the kitties I'd say NO!
Heck the kitties probably say NO also.....

(86,646 posts)Never cook fish in the nuker. Aside from ruining it, it's sacrilege. And you may never get the smell out of the oven.
Ptah
(33,032 posts)Or is the microwave the only cooking method that brings out that smell?
2naSalit
(86,646 posts)Even reheating it. It's kind of like putting fish in your car, the smell never goes away. Anybody who may have made that mistake can tell you.

(55,014 posts)But do be careful of hotspots turn often or do short bursts. Personally, I prefer salmon grilled over Mesquite.

(7,754 posts)it would be okay. Seals in the juices and keeps the smell inside the bag.

(9,580 posts)you can microwave it, but start it off at 50% power for about 3 minutes, and then go from there. I used to cook salmon in the microwave, but it is pretty fast to cook in the oven, and I think it is much better. YMMV.
Ptah
(33,032 posts)I usually cook fish at about 30%.

(16,975 posts)I live in the middle of the country and any seafood remains special to me. I would broil salmon in a conventional oven, and serve it with food that makes it the special dinner that it is.

(22,264 posts)I have worked in more than one office which would not allow the cooking of fish in the breakroom microwaves.
Having said that I do not think it would be even close to good even if I did fix it
