What's for Dinner, Fri., New Year's Eve, Dec. 31, 2021

Last edited Fri Dec 31, 2021, 07:18 PM - Edit history (1)

Seafood plate with crackers. Smoked salmon, cream cheese. Whitefish salad. Herring with onions. Cold shrimp with cocktail sauce. Toppings are pickled red onion, capers, sundried tomatoes. Chopped dill, fresh from my garden.

Tossed green salad with red tip lettuce, arugula, and chopped vegetables--red and yellow peppers, red onion, sliced tomato, cucumber. The dressing for this is avocado-cilantro. I'm putting fresh avocado in, too.

Flatbread pizza: caramelized onion, wild mushrooms.

To drink: My brother drinks Bai, some coconut drink, and I am having kombucha.

My brother, who lives halfway across the country, and I are having a Netflix Teleparty. Due to the numerous comments I've seen at DU, we are going to watch "Don't Look Up."

Happy New Year, everyone!

My wife's sister is having her 70th birthday today and that's been her favorite meal since they were little girls. So whenever possible, we do that for New Year's Eve.

Sweet potatoes and the usual mix of cooked greens. Pecan pie for dessert. I stopped to buy some alcohol today. I couldn't decide on liquor, or wine, or beer. So I bought nothing and have about 5 ounces of vodka on the shelf. 1 ounce is enough for me.

Hope there's no fatalities from firing Christmas toys into the air to celebrate New Years. These people could start a foundational investment program for all the money they spend on bullets. You want power? Gimme green over lead any day.

I was going to make chicken wings, but apparently there’s some kind of chicken-wing shortage.

For an appetizer, I’m making a small cheese plate with sliced apples, crackers, oysters and scallops that I smoked on the Traeger. For dinner I’m making baked king crab legs, a big tossed salad and sourdough bread. I’ll open a bottle of bubbly because why not?

I thought Don’t Look Up was very well done. It was like the last 5 years condensed into a movie. We are all Kate.

Happy New Year!

It won't be ready for another hour. ugh. I did tell Al two days ago that if we wanted to eat at 7:00 or 7:30, that we would need to order an hour or two in advance.... I think maybe I won't say "I told you so."

Um... egg rolls, crab rangoon, Veg Lo Mien and "Delight of Three"

I baked some oatmeal chocolate-chip cookies.

We started with an appetizer of raw oysters with lemon, cocktail sauce and crackers. A flute of champagne was the perfect accompaniment

A bit later, our dinner was a surf ‘n’ turf: Beef filets, a shared steamed lobster tail, linguini with a basil and tomato sauce and a Boston Bibb salad.

For dessert we’ll have chocolates and maybe a little more champagne.

Happy new year to all who cook and all who eat!

2021 was such a disappointing year in so many ways, we decided to celebrate anyway. My mother in law has a beach house on the Outer Banks and we’ve “isolated” here for the week.

You and your husband are invited for next New Year’s Eve. Let’s figure out where we are then.

Peace and best wishes to you both.
