was a pack of Beyond burgers. Two for four bucks. That's 2 quarter pounders, or 8 bucks a pound. Or, twice per pound that I paid for a rump roast.
I gotta admit that the burgers tasted pretty good, but the price is not right for feeding a boy scout troop, or even a small family. If they stay around at all, the price will come down and they will be good value. I'd buy all I can get at 2 bucks a pound, or half the price of the rump roast.

(3,291 posts)The price is so good, but i made one last week and it was very tough.

(5,524 posts)which I have learned over the years helps to tenderize a tough-ish roast. I think it is the acid in the tomatoes. Give it a try next time. Same for beef stew.

(3,291 posts)It makes sense. I wonder if marinating the roast in tomato juice or salsa for a few hours would help.

According to that, it's also good for jerky, but I've never tried that.

(24,284 posts)When you boil it in vinegar/water with pickling spices and an onion for several hours you can cut it with a fork. In fact, if you boil it too long it will completely fall apart.

(3,291 posts)"Long and slow" seems to be the right way to do it.

(21,675 posts)I use it for so many things. A pot roast is great in the IP, and then I use the meat to make taquitos. A small can of roast beef is around $6, and you can get a lot more than a can of roast beef out of a roast.

(17,288 posts)I think it is a little cheaper if you buy the ground versions and make your own patties. But yes, even so it is pricy.
The good news is it helps the planet/reduces cruelty so even if you swap out once a week if you can swing it that would be something good 😊
I noticed Costco sells the burgers in bulk, and probably a good deal. My freezer is always too full to buy that many at once.

(14,176 posts)I have a whole box of them in the freezer right now and a couple Beyond Burgers (that I also got at 2/$4 at my local supermarket) in the fridge. I planned to eat one or both this weekend but didn't get around to it. I only cook for one or two, so the price isn't bad for me, but I'm sure it'd be prohibitively expensive for people with larger families.
