(46,576 posts)It looks like it would have been a great dessert, until it wasn't.

(24,104 posts)It would be perfect for camping, no oven required. Also looks like it would be fun to make with the great grandchildren. (three and four years old) They love to cook with my wife.

(46,576 posts)I want it to be good. But it's just not.
Mr.Bill
(24,104 posts)would make a difference. Also bananas that were a little more ripe. There's all kinds of improvements that could be made. How about just dumping a can of cherry pie filling on it? Or mixing some graham cracker with the oatmeal. I'm not anti-sugar.

That's what it needs, PEANUT BUTTER!

(110,913 posts)although I don't think the bananas would confer adequate sweetening. A little Splenda and touch of vanilla (and tiny bit of salt, let's face it) would do wonders for this.
I might also use a tiny bit of light oil, toss the oatmeal in it, and toast it in the oven. I'd want it more toasted than this video shows. In addition, the oil would prevent it from sucking every bit of moisture out of the cocoa, cinnamon, and banana puree (and Splenda) mixture.
All in all, a little Spartan for most tastes, my slice would have resided shyly under the corner of my napkin even in my health food days. With a tweak here and there, it could be quite palatable, especially to someone for whom sweets were rare.

(110,913 posts)and I don't have a particularly functional kitchen right now.
I'll have to kick the can over to somebody else.
I've got the perfect victims to try it on, someone with both diabetes and celiac in the family.
