(68,620 posts)I Cooked it for 45 minutes then turned it off and let it release for 10 minutes. Next, I added potatoes, carrots, and celery...turned it back on for another 15 minutes, and then released it...I had used wine mixed with water and herbs when I cooked it so I made gravy. It turned out really well ...it was ready in a little over an hour.

It didn't have any other veg in it besides red pepper, so I added some chopped onion and steamed broccoli, also made more sauce than instructed since I was adding more ingredients. Was going to add mushrooms, too, but it took longer for the chicken to cook than indicated and I was getting tired. Served over brown rice. Will probably throw some frozen peas in tomorrow. Originally meant to heat up a few frozen egg rolls in the toaster oven when I was planning this meal while making the grocery list, but I forgot.
I'm not hungry so haven't even tasted it yet, but husband is eating away and says it's really good. I may try a little of it later if I get to feeling like it.
There are still plenty of cookies left from yesterday, as well as ice cream sandwiches and my sugar-free fudgsicles for later.

(25,868 posts)Finally finishing up the ham from January -- the downside of living alone is how long it can take to use up something. This time I used dried northern beans and dried navy beans, one pound each for the soup. An onion, several carrots, various spices, and vegetable stock.
It was really good, and I'll be freezing eleven, count them, eleven portions, which will last for many months. Oh, and the 12th portion will be eaten tomorrow. The first one was eaten today, so altogether thirteen meals. I'm guessing this is a meal that is costing less than a dollar a portion.
In a couple of days I'll make Chicken of Muchness, which likewise makes vast quantities to freeze.
I am willing to repeat meals, which helps me save money.
