I made a smoothie the other day and spent the evening picking spinach out of my teeth, so yesterday I upgraded my blender to a Vitamix 5200. I foresee a liquid diet for a couple of days as I play with the thing.

(47,121 posts)I confess during the summer I will use my blender two or three times a day.
I would much rather have smoothies and frozen coffee drinks than stare at a plate of food.

(13,909 posts)It sounds like a first gear with out syncro. A slight grinding and then blastoff. It still works fine.

(36,827 posts)I bought it used and since it's a commercial model it was probably used in a commercial environment for who knows how long before I got it. It still works as good as new.
Besides the stronger motor and heavier construction, the nice thing about the commercial model is it has a polycarbonate enclosure that goes around the pitcher. When closed it has a tab that prevents the lid from coming off during operation and if you forget to put the lid on (which I've done a time or two), it contains the resulting deluge.

(13,909 posts)there is no place for any expansion or gas relieve due to it's design.
Sometimes I use the Blentec to make a quick soup. Heat and Pressure builds up and boom.. not cool...
My old man had a Vitamix that he had for years and worked well for him...

(36,827 posts)This is a simple frappe recipe I use. I'm not a big fan of them, but my daughter and her boyfriend love it.
200g milk
120g ice
50g sugar free syrup
40g espresso (if you are using brewed coffee you might want to use less milk)
Makes enough for 2 drinks
Blend for about 30 seconds or until ice is crushed and a nice foam develops
