What's for Dinner, Sat., Nov. 5, 2022

I'm cooking up fall produce tonight so I'll just be munching as I work. I'm making tomato soup, for example, and I'll have some of that with a meatloaf sandwich. I like to put red onion, lettuce and mayo on such sandwiches.

In addition, I'm going to try for some pickled green cherry tomatoes.

Sliced cucumber with sea salt.

Pomegranate kombucha.

It's warm here today, so I picked up a small watermelon for dessert.

baked in the oven, served with coleslaw and cornbread with nibblets mixed in.

Coffee and water, as usual.

It's been really chilly in the house today bc it got down into the 30s overnight. Trying not to run the heat too much as it's still early and I don't want to use up a lot of propane before we have to.

Mid 70s and this is NE Ohio in November!

I did the last perch fry of the season (I cook it outside). Corn muffins and Cole slaw.

Tried a new recipe.

Essentially a hopped up meatball hamburger. Chopped chuck, flour, mustard, egg, horseradish, salt, pepper, and diced onion.

I didn't grill them though. First tried the broiler on toaster oven. Good but it couldn't fit more than 3 and it took 20+ minutes.

Switched to searing on both sides on cast iron on the stove and then finished in toaster oven at 350 degrees.

And they were tasty.

with sweet Italian sausage, red bell pepper and onions, tossed in pesto.

(I would have preferred a different pasta, but that's all we have in the house until we shop tomorrow.)

A piece of chuck, white potatoes, carrot, onion, cabbage, garlic and spices. I put it all in a Visions casserole and roasted it in a 325 oven. The old-fashioned method. I used some curry, and by the time it was ready, I was starved! Leftovers tomorrow

today dropping temp and very windy - am thinking of making apple butter with red hots . Plan on making in crockpot - looking forward to the spicy aroma and an Autumn chill in the air. Homemade bread would be nice.
