For the mashed potatoes she tosses a couple of garlic cloves into the boiling water with teh potatoes then mashes them.
I like taking a garlic head, or two depending on amount of potatoes, Sut the top off. Place on a sheet of Alu foil, drizzle some olive oil over them wrap up and toss into the oven with the turkey. When teh bird is cooked so is the garlic and can be squeezed into the potatoes as you mash them.

but honestly, I'd prefer the baked garlic squeezed onto some artisan bread than in my mashed potatoes.

I like my mash to taste like mash. I have the soul of a peasant.
