Related: About this forumAwwww...the last thing my big old trusty slow cooker will ever see is a beef brisket.
with onion, carrots, and mushrooms. The ceramic lid once again broke in two as I lifted it from the pot.

(21,111 posts)I had a slow cooker that was over 35 years old. It cooked a lot of good meals the last time I used it the wire made a cracking sound and when I unplugged it I had to pour water on a small flame.
Luckily my husband and brought a brand new bigger one about a month earlier at a flea market that has a removable ceramic dish that can be washed detached from the heating element.

(13,186 posts)I second the recommendation to at least check for a lid online
I had an enamel clad cast iron Dutch oven go missing in a move and relearning how to make a pot roast with its replacement was aggravating
So at least take a look

(36,827 posts)Lots of people are getting rid of their slow cookers when they get one of the more modern all-in-one designed units. I know mine isn't long for my kitchen. I haven't used it in a long time and it's just taking up space right now. I might find some way to use it over the holidays, but if not I'm going to just donate it.

Instant Pot has gone the cast iron route with a slow cooker (electric, with controls). You can chip the enamel but even I find cast iron hard to break. Obviously, no pressure cooker function with that gravity held lid.
Or you could just get a cast iron (enameled if you like) pot and put it in the oven.

(2,674 posts)Bought mine in the 70's It finally gave out after 40 years. Bought a new one. It was not the same, cooked too hot. Found another "oldie" at an estate sale. It's perfect.

(1,038 posts)& non-removable crock at the thrift store for $2. It works like a charm! I liked it so much I went back and got 2 more: one for my daughter and one for when this one dies. Crock pot liners make cleanup easy.
I still have 2 of the newer crockpots: 4 qt. & 6 qt. I'll be using them both on Thanksgiving. The large one to cook a turkey breast & the smaller one for tater tot casserole.
Happy Thanksgiving! Gobble Gobble
