So I made Brazilian "Farofa" today

First time I've cooked from a recipe in decades.

Substituted corn meal for the traditional Yucca flour.

Also, used chopped green onions, fried bananas in sweet hot sauce, ground sausage, real butter.

I also added 2 eggs so it wouldn't be too dry.

The two young guys who I share this house with came downstairs, "Damn, what smells so good", and wolfed down so fast I had to make sure to save some for the traditional offering.

"The Cornmeal farofa with linguiça (Farofa de farinha de milho com linguiça)
There probably is nothing more Brazilian than farofa! This farofa recipe here is special: enhanced with linguiças, bananas and cornmeal it is a great accompaniment for barbecues and meat in general.

What is it with this dish that Brazilians love so much, that seems so strange for foreigners? They have it for lunch, dinner, barbecue... the farofa combines with almost everything, does it not? Today here is a farofa with cornmeal; unlike corn flour, cornmeal is flaky not unlike the cassava flour used for the regular farofa. If you are looking for something different to surprise your family and guests with something exotic, which is a very good way to begin a delicious Brazilian meal, let's not hesitate any longer: follow the simple step-by-step procedure and prepare this delicious dish!"

* 5 tablespoons of butter
* 2 bananas, peeled and sliced
* 1 onion, diced
* 2 linguiças, sliced
* 2 cups cornmeal, precooked
* Salt
* chopped chives to taste
* Red hot chilies, to decorate

"Procedure:

1) Melt the butter in a skillet, then in it fry the banana rounds, until browned.
Remove the bananas and set aside.

2) Add a little more butter in the same pan, then in it slightly brown the onion.

3) Add the linguiça sausage slices, stirring.

4) Pour in the cornmeal, and fry for two or three minutes, stirring constantly.

5) Season with salt and put the banana rounds we fried at the beginning back in.

Sprinkle the chives, garnish with a hot chilli and serve."

I took great liberties with this recipe, and it still came out wonderful!

We’ve got a little Brazilian restaurant here in town…I always get farofa on top of my black beans, rice and collard greens…total comfort food. I am going to check out your recipe.

With my lack of cooking skills, it was a gift that it came out well!

Lots if room there to experiment.

Thank you!

Though plantains would be cool...

And Jimmy Deans pre cooked sausage crumbles.

The recipe calls for a type of Brazilian sausage, linguiça sausage slices, but as I said, there is a wide range of possibilities for thus recipe.

I am going to get Cassava flour from Amazon to see what difference it makes.

Thanks, Kali!

If course, if you want to go REALLY traditional, it can get pretty involved..

I've been to Brazil several times. I enjoy the food there a lot.
One of the sites I regularly visited had a commissary that had wonderful lunches. Sometimes, depending on how I split up my hours for the work I was doing, I'd eat twice, because they'd be serving lunch for the dark shift.

Not 100 miles though. We're only 60 miles from Chicago & there are some in the suburbs. Maybe 45 minutes from here.
My wife would probably dig it so I'll have to check.

To be certain Ana wasn't pulling my leg...

What is the meaning of Rodizio?
Noun. rodizio (plural rodizios) A Brazilian steakhouse restaurant, which primarily serves all-you-can-eat grilled meats.

https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/rodizio

There is one in Northern Ohio.

I'll have to check it out sometime!

In my life, the snow when I was 10 was the biggest. 23".
Up where you're at, they just call that kind of snowfall "winter".
