Cooking & Baking

I'm not sure yet, but I've got chicken stock going in the slow cooker.
I also am working on another one of those "silk" soup recipes from Food & Wine. This one is kohlrabi-turnip-potato.
However, I'm really hungry for meatloaf and I have the ingredients for that, so I might get this done when I return from the gardens.
Plus make a baby spinach salad with grape tomatoes, pickling cucumbers, and scallions.
Happy Sunday Cooking, everyone.

(22,767 posts)I took it outta the fridge today and cut all the meat off the bones, and them scraped them of what wouldn't cut off, along with the soft tissue to have as treats for the dog. Stupid me, wasn't even thinking at the time. I bagged and tied up the bones and pitched them in the wheeled bin outside instead of putting them in the freezer to make a bone broth later.
Anyway, I suspect the turkey and trimmings to all be gone by lunch tomorrow and am looking forward to a big pot of hot beef vegetable barley soup thanks to the suggestion from Marthe48's post.
(I'll answer your reply to my post yesterday via DM so everyone doesn't need to hear me bitch even more about it. )

Al and I will split a baked apple for dessert--scoop of ice cream on top.
I also spent some time this afternoon prepping Dad's dinner for tomorrow: tortiere.

(4,666 posts)Rare as rare can be. Gah, that roast beef is sooooo good! Pricey, but worth the splurge.
Carmelized onion, provolone, and Hellmans mayo on lightly toasted cracked wheat sourdough bread. Yum.
For dessert: coffee and Moms ricotta cookies. She saved me a whole ziplock bag full from her Christmas cookie baking. She pulled them out of the freezer for me when I went by to visit today and I nearly cried. Moms are the best!

(10,181 posts)Mostly vegetables, with a small amount of lamb. I'm craving meatloaf after reading the other thread, but I'm trying not to accumulate too many leftovers.

(1,568 posts)Really high-quality ground beef but then I throw the leftover veggies and random cans of veggies in with it after it browns. A little beef broth and seasoning and it's always good. Oh, and half a head of cabbage at the end to wilt down. Always different, but always good. Like to serve it over rice or raman. Food prep for the week is done!
