Took the day off to wait for fridge repair...UPDATE!

Last edited Fri Mar 31, 2023, 07:00 PM - Edit history (1)

guy showed up. Replaced fans he had ordered. Said okay give it 24 hours. This morning I put an ice pack (frozen from the chest freezer) in the LG freezer and it's melting. The fridge part does not feel cold. I'll call again on Monday but I think I'm now eligible to ask for my money back. And money for the food. *sigh*

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Previous:

Started the claim with the extended warranty March 1. They came out on the 9th, ordered the part and no-showed two weeks later.

The only contact I have is with the warranty people and they told me someone is coming today between 8 and 5.

As this will be the 4th or 5th repair, I am hoping for a refund instead. Supposedly, I can make a claim for the food lost but not until the fridge repair is complete.

Do not buy an LG.

that a lot of "stuff" is just not made to last these days. Not like the old days. I think they are engineered to only last a short period of time??

first time, compressor. Second time, compressor; third time, unknown so nearly every part was replaced and I am talking welding things in my kitchen, fluids, fans, compressor and ALL day into dinner, task completed by the same guy who repaired it the second time. This time, different guy said it was a fan and ordered a new fan but since then the compressor has gone out again.

Go with as basic as possible. Like maybe an ice maker if you are feeling bold, lol.

I've had the same refrigerator for 20+ years now.

It is a Hotpoint.

I don't know that this brand is made any longer but if it is, I'd strongly recommend them.

I'm sorry you are having all of this trouble.

I'd likely get rid of that POS and as for the warranty that comes with it, that sounds like a POS too!

Best of luck and I hope you can get something better!

a GE or similar. We had a Kenmore that lasted forever before this one. I honesty think the issue is the fancy technology and I will go with something more basic.

There have been at least 2 class action lawsuits against LG for these fridges.

You might look for a used one.

There is an appliance repairman that sells used appliances where I live. I'll be going to him the next time I need something.

I'm pretty sure the washing machine I have won't last for long.

Its a Crosley and the warranty is expired.

You can't put much of anything in it without the alarm going off on it.

This is such a disgusting problem!

I feel for you, I really do!

Take care and GOOD LUCK!

My repair man said never replace them. They are about 35 years old. I have had the belt replaced on the dryer and some other minor repair on the washer. They are going strong. As long as there are parts available and I'm told that Maytag has most parts for these old machines, don't give up if you need a repair. Never had to have a repair on my GE refrig, and only a small repair of my Whirlpool stove. Guess I've been lucky. Call a reputable repair company about your Maytag to see if whatever is wrong can be fixed. Sure cheaper than buying a new one...such as they are.

When this washer goes, I'll look for a used Maytag from the man I mentioned that sells repaired appliances!

I know what to get now and I'm sure they must have made one at some point in time that will fit in my tiny washroom.

I live in an energy efficient house and the whole house is small!

I'm glad to swap info./ideas, etc. back and forth.

We aren't alone with these problems no doubt!

Take care.

Unfortunately, it made ice in the vegetable drawers. There was a major design flaw that meant every six months or so we had to thaw an ice block in one of the water circulation systems. Then it finally stopped freezing - or cooling - anything.

Do not buy a Samsung.

Mostly bad reviews but it has over 700 reviews on it.

The ones you can see and read are one star!
More here FYI (as if you didn't know already!).

It says it has a 20 year guarantee (?). What a crock.

the original warranty had the compressor at 5 years but I think they had to change it because of the lawsuits.

As you can see from the comments, of course they will repair but there isn't anyone in your area that can repair. I'm in Atlanta and the warranty company has only TWO repair companies for service and one of them does not repair refrigerators. Crock is right!

I was looking at a LG washing machine but ended up w/the Crosley.

I have a very small laundry room and that was the only thing that would fit. I had a Gibson washing machine that lasted for 17 years. I would have had it repaired but there were no more parts around for it.

Its so disgusting that we as consumers are being roped into buying this junk. And yes, that's what it is, JUNK!, and costly junk at that!

My appliances are old. the repair man has come to repair the stove, refrig and washer and dryer thru the years. He told me that he and other repair companies near me will not do any repairs for LG.
I'll keep having my old Maytag, GE and Whirlpool appliances as long as there are parts available. Even some of the big current names are problems for these people. A family member is having major problems with her very expensive dishwasher. They don't make them like they used to, that's for sure. I wish you luck.

the stores didn't have anything in stock. I went from wanting a certain size and color within my budget to wanting anything in any style at almost any budget as long as it didn't take three or four months to get. I checked NextDoor and Craigslist. I had been to the big box stores, discount stores, and the small family owned stores and the story was the same. I was on the Best Buy website and just put fridges in the cart until there was one that could be delivered in three weeks. Little did I know...

and if the guy in the video is correct just about all fridges suck nowadays anyway, I have a cool old 70s kenmore I got from my neighbor that still cranks away. I love it because it only has half a freezer section on the inside at the bottom and a normal door. I freaking HATE doors that have shelves for gallon containers. no thanks, doors are for condiments, prefer heavy gallon containers inside, on a nice sturdy WIRE-not glass- shelf. If it ever dies I will look for a commercial fridge with no freezer. I also have an old 80s GE that has the old style freezer inside at the top. it grows glaciers but that thing just keeps running! I don't care if they cost a lot to run, they just work and keep working. I have a big chest freezer out on the porch.

All one unit. It saves space, but DH hates it. It never gets the clothes completely dry and he can't get the hang of the controls.

I just tolerate getting the clothes damp-dry enough to hang up. It takes care of the wrinkles, anyway. But there's no option for just taking them out, putting them on and walking out the door.

Never an LG again.
