What's for Dinner, Sun., Dec. 24, 2023

Turkey meatballs that I made yesterday. I only got to have one because I was so tired from making stuff and also working outdoors. They have spinach, parmesan, onion, and garlic in them. A little grated carrot and chopped celery leaves from garden celery.

Microgreen salad with red tip lettuce. Cucumbers in sour cream, mascarpone, and dill.

Passionfruit kombucha.

Dessert: turtle cheesecake and decaf coffee.

What I know will be on the table: Venison roast with gravy, tamales, (v) tabouli, (v) corn salad, jalapeno poppers, (v) loaded baked potato casserole, (v) stuffed mushrooms, asparagus, Waldorf salad, hot rolls, (v) apple pie, peanut butter pie.
(v)= vegan, not sure what the vegan will bring. I'm the baker, I did the pies and rolls.

The four of us will have our traditional present opening followed by a dinner of oyster stew, tea sandwiches, relishes, salad. Topped off with Christmas cookies, peanut brittle, and fudge. I am bringing smoked bay scallops as an appetizer.

scaled down quite a bit since I don't feel like cooking 7 courses, and one of the couples cancelled at the last minute due to a positive Covid test.

I'm making sole with a lemon caper sauce, baked mushrooms in sour cream, vegan gołąbki (made with mushrooms instead of meat), and barszcz made with golden beets because I don't want a pink kitchen. With sweet potato pie for dessert because the person bringing it is from the Deep South. One is supposed to wait until one sees the first star to begin eating, but it's overcast today.

I made a dry rub for chicken thighs, cooked them in the new toaster oven.
I think there is some kind of pastry for dessert later.

I think he felt bad because I had been baking all day.

He's a good guy. This was thoughtful of him.
