(28,791 posts)since today is the first day under 80 all week it'll be plum jam and ??. The damsons are ripe and we beat the squirrels to them this year I also need to skin and freeze about 10lbs of tomatoes for sauce and figure out what to do with a couple pounds of various grape size toms. I'm thinking about refrig pickling them..

(146,218 posts)we are going to have an antipasto feast.
I am going to dig everything edible out of the fridge and serve it over a 3 to 4 hour period while we drink wine and talk about everything under the sun.
I've got cheese, good bread, leftover crab and cream cheese stuffed peppers, olives, roasted red peppers and who knows what else.
Should be fun!

(146,218 posts)I was skeptical, but really wanted to try her way. I remember being so pleased with the result. I don't think I had ever eaten a lentil before in my life.

(36,827 posts)My wife and daughter love fajitas, so I like to make them fairly often. Some time back I bought some really big sirloin steaks on sale, so I vacuum packed each steak individually and threw them in the freezer. Around 2pm today I pulled one of them and put it in my sous vide cooker set to 140 degrees(the steak was still frozen). For a steak that size, it would only take about 3 hours to cook, but it's almost impossible to overcook with the sous vide (I'd have to leave it in there for days before it would be overcooked). This works out great because I never know what time my wife is going to be home from work and I can do all the prep work ahead of time. When the wife gets home I throw the tortillas in the oven and set my big cast iron skillet to medium high. The steak comes out of the sous vide and gets dried, brushed with light olive oil, and seasoned. I throw it on the skillet and sear both sides. As soon as the steak comes off, the peppers and onions go on. After those are seared I slice up the steak and dinner is ready. It takes about 15 minutes from start to finish once the wife gets home. The steak comes out medium and perfectly cooked every time and extremely tender.

(10,201 posts)I was going to make chicken soup, however the last three thighs went bad.
So...
Garlic, celery, onion, carrot, kale, tofu and broccoli.
I did however sauté the veggies in bacon fat and deglase with a white wine.
Thyme and rosemary for good measure.
