(29,098 posts)I roast the potatoes then mash them with butter and cream. I layer the mash with diced apples mixed with dried cranberries, maple sugar and goat cheese. Then I top it with Spicy Sweet Pecans from Trader Joes

(111,267 posts)was cut into slabs and fried as part of a vegetable or fish tempura with a really strong dipping sauce.
Otherwise, baked as part of a mixed veg bake is the best way for me to get them down. I really don't like them sugared and spiced with cinnamon and I especially don't like them mashed.

(78 posts)I usually like them grilled or broiled. I stay away from sweet-flavored recipes because sweet potatoes are, by nature, sweet. Plus I find adding the extra sugar, butter, honey, etc. dilutes the nutritional value that sweet potatoes have.

(50,130 posts)Baked, split, lotsa butter mmmmm.
Bobby Flay has a recipe with chipotle and cream, baked for a long time. That's tasty, too.
If I were going to sweeten a bit I would use orange marmalade. I like that combo.
really like them sweet . They are sweet enough with just a little bit of butter!

(31,170 posts)They are great sliced & tossed with a little olive oil and roasted with other veggies: potatoes, onions, carrots, celery, etc
I will also bake (or microwave them if it's just for me) and sprinkle with pumpkin pie seasoning and add butter.
I don't usually make the sweet casseroles. They are ok...but I prefer them cooked simply.
They also rock sliced thin and fried with tempura batter.
None of which you are probably looking for!
Much less sweeter and less spicier than pumpkin when done "right".

(6,581 posts)Drizzle with a little olive, canola, or safflower oil. Put a single layer, spread out just a bit, on a foil-lined baking sheet, and put into a 400 degree oven. Turn several times, and add a little more oil if necessary. Bake roughly 30 minutes, they should be browned but not burnt, and should get crisp on the outside.
Then, dust lightly with brown sugar and salt to taste, put back in the oven under the broiler, set on low with rack down, and cook until the sugar melts and begins to caramelize.
