Can anyone recommend a good brand of canned tuna for tuna salad? The last few times I've gotten canned tuna, I've been really disappointed with it. It seems almost grainy rather than flaky and I've ended up just throwing it out.
I tend to buy tuna packed in water, could that be the problem? I used to get good water packed tuna.
I sometimes wonder if the tuna packing industry is scraping the bottom of the barrel for residue these days.... Ugh. Once I get that image in my head, I really can't stomach the stuff.
I've been craving a good tuna salad sandwich and ended up with another bad batch yesterday.

(17,055 posts)I finally found a good one when Wegmans opened a store close by. If you happen to have a Wegmans try Wegmans brand solid white albacore in water.

(2,593 posts)That's why I'm so discouraged. I'm willing to pay the higher price for a quality product, but haven't had any luck in finding one that is consistently good.
Oh well, there are bigger problems in the world, but a really good tuna salad sandwich would sure be nice.

(146,218 posts)brand name products. I really don't like the Trader Joe's tuna at all.
And I noticed just this week that the cans are smaller! I had a recipe calling for a can of tuna that specified 6 oz, but the cans I had were all 5 oz.
But....
we are really overfishing tuna, so maybe I need to step away from it anyway.

(2,593 posts)We are Costco members, but I've never tried their tuna. I will make a point of picking up some on my next trip.
