at a local restaurant that specializes in locally sourced foods. My personal favorite is the duck rillettes or pork pate with cornichon, slaw, and house-pickled baby veggies, like radish, carrot, and turnip. I order their fries cooked to a perfect crunch in duck fat, add a cocktail and I'm in heaven.

It's pretty tiny/cozy. One of favorite restaurants in town. And they have a regular menu, which isn't too cheap. And a special menu with about a dozen entrees on it--and you get two dinners and a bottle of wine for $39!

Everything had that just cooked, clear, fresh taste with some nice touches. The chicken came with sesame seeds and a bit of slivered cucumber over the top. Pot stickers were probably run under a broiler after the pan fry, the crowns were toasty not mushy. Soup had fresh scallion greens as a garnish.

We have a hand full of Asian restaurants here. Some are really good, some are just the basics. It was a neat find to see that this place had stepped up their game.

And, $20 plus delivery tip for what will be 2 meals and a snack is a great deal...

I am going to halve it and will cook it longer, then puree with my stick blender (so will skip the 1st regular blender step - I don't have one).

Spicy Tomato Soup

ingredients

2 (28- to 32-oz) cans whole tomatoes in juice (preferably organic)
1 large onion, coarsely chopped (2 1/4 cups)
2 teaspoons finely chopped garlic
1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh jalapeño chile including seeds
2 teaspoons finely chopped peeled fresh ginger
3 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
2 1/4 cups reduced-sodium chicken broth (18 fl oz)
1 tablespoon sugar, or to taste
2 teaspoons salt, or to taste

preparation

Drain 1 can tomatoes, discarding juice, then purée with remaining can tomatoes (including juice) in a blender.

Cook onion, garlic, chile, and ginger in oil in a 4- to 5-quart heavy nonreactive pot over moderate heat, stirring frequently, until onion is softened, about 8 minutes. Add cumin and cook, stirring, 1 minute. Stir in puréed tomatoes, broth, 1 tablespoon sugar, and 2 teaspoons salt and simmer, uncovered, stirring occasionally, 20 minutes. Working in 3 or 4 batches, blend soup in blender until smooth (use caution when blending hot liquids). Transfer soup as blended to a sieve set over a large bowl and force through sieve, discarding seeds.

Stir in sugar and salt to taste. Reheat in cleaned saucepan if necessary.

Or as my son calls it "Cheaterbraten" as it's not really traditional.

We emptied some of the containers in the fridge that had odds and ends in them. DH requested meatloaf and mashed potatoes for dinner tomorrow. It's cold and damp and he's in the mood for some comfort food.
