The bread sure looks pretty. I'll let you know how it tastes in about an hour

I'm back, and it's awesome. The temp was too high, the bottom scorched a little and I lost a little height when I took it out early cause I could smell it starting to burn. This is the recipe from Mother Earth Mag... I used 2/3 whole wheat..

No-Knead Dutch Oven Bread

1/4 tsp active dry yeast
1 1/2 cups warm water
3 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting. You may use white, whole wheat or a combination of the two.
1 1/2 tsp salt
Cornmeal or wheat bran for dusting

a fruit salad of canned apricots, peaches and mandarin oranges. Winter has returned and I have to go into town and grocery shop as I hate to drive on these secondary, hilly roads in the snow.

I'm making stock tonight, and then I'll make the soup. This soup has a ginger base. Vegetables with pork, I think, for the soup.

It has really turned cold here, so it will be nice to have soup around for a few days.

And then I have a lot of peppers to roast tonight, too. Tomorrow I might red pepper soup.

Hey, you can't have enough soup in cold weather!!

Cucumber salad--red onions, sour cream.

Boiled with potatoes and green beans. Boiled sausage and potatoes is a PA Dutch thing Mom often made, but the only kind of sausage I like is kielbasa. (Well there was Oscar Mayer Smokie Links but they were discontinued...sniff )

I'm just in love with that dressing and have romaine, parmesan and croutons on hand.

Also thinking about a mushroom soup. I am not a big 'shroom fan, but it's a texture thing. I think I might like a fully pureed soup.

I rubbed olive oil over the bird and seasoned it inside and out with Jane's Crazy Salt. It is the best chicken I've ever tasted! The white meat is juicy and the dark meat melts in your mouth. I hope I can round up enough of the carcass to make a pot of chicken pastine soup but the whole bird pretty much fell apart. I will make chicken like this again.

I plopped the whole bird into the crock and did it on Slow for 10 hours. I never did a chicken in the crock pot before.

It wasn't the most attractive chicken I've ever made but the flavor and juiciness made up for it.
