what's for dinner - sun, july 7th

my best friend and her guy are visiting from germany and today we're heading up into the mountains. i have a flat iron steak marinating, which we'll grill up for sandwiches on some bread i baked yesterday. roasted bell peppers, avocado, tomato and red onion for the sandwiches. grilled corn, potato salad and a romaine/cuke/bell pepper/tomato salad for the sides. grapes and potato chips for snacking. and plenty of beer i'm thinking we should grab some watermelon before we head out, too.

happy sunday, friends

You've done some real cooking!

I have no idea what we'll be eating...we're in the Sofitel Hotel at Heathrow Airport just outside London, and so we'll have whatever appeals to us and is on the menu.

Have a great time on your picnic!

and removing the giblets, baked scalloped red potatoes in a cheese alfredo with tomatoes and onions strewn on top, leafy salad, and parmesan garlic bread. I don't eat plain bread unless I'm eating a sandwich, so I couldn't attest to that part, but everything else was delicious.

everything except the bell peppers sounds fantastic I have a deep, abiding aversion to them. I love all other peppers but sweet, however

I don't know what it is about them but they smell icky and taste worse according to my olfactory and even my tactile senses tingle when coming in contact with them raw. It's ... unpleasant.

ETA: You can be allergic to bell peppers, and not other peppers.

Mine's not so bad, but I despise them for how they make me feel, yet other peppers are delicious, and cause no problems. It seems rooted in Bell Peppers that are more closely associated with Eggplant than say, a jalapeño or habañero.

I love chicken salad with green grapes and pecans or cashews. Fresh corn on the cob, honeydew melon and peaches, sliced. And lime sherbert in lime soda.

We just had a wine and cheese night. Bottle of white, bottle of red.

Good conversation. Learned about a couple new books, one of which is Growing Up Amish. A friend told us about his trip to research the underground railroad.
