KFC coleslaw dressing recipe?

Would anyone have a recipe for the dressing that would mirror the KFC taste?

Mom loves that flavor but the stuff is just outrageously priced...I can duplicate the texture of the cabbage and carrot
but can't seem to spot a recipe for the dressing.

Thoughts? And thanks!!

1. KFC coleslaw is very good, but it's more of a chopped salad

I think the dressing is too high in sweeteners and prefer Hidden Valley Coleslaw Dressing on my own cabbage and carrots, adding just a tad of celery seed to deepen the flavor a bit.

I did gank this off You Tube. Tarragon vinegar seems to be the big secret ingredient. And it is high in sugar.

50 Heads of green cabbage
100 Carrots
4½ gal Miracle Whip salad dressing
3 qts Tarragon vinegar
4½ cups Canola oil
11 lbs Sugar (25 cups)
½ cup Salt
¼ cup Finely ground black pepper

====================================================

Reduced recipe (yields approximately two quarts)
Ingredients:

1 Head of green cabbage
2 Carrots
1½ cups Miracle Whip salad dressing
4 Tbsp Tarragon vinegar
1½ Tbsp Canola oil
½ cup Sugar
½ tsp Salt
¼ tsp Finely ground black pepper

=============================================================

Instructions:

Shred the cabbage and carrots, add the remaining ingredients and mix thoroughly. Refrigerate in a sealed container for at least a couple of hours. Serve chilled.

[Note]
If you don't have a shredder or food processor, put cabbage/carrots in a blender, fill with water and pulse until you reach the desired texture.

ETA: offhand, if I couldn't find the tarragon vinegar at the local market, I'd probably use cider vinegar, my go to vinegar for most veggie slaws and salads. Oh, and click the title link on the video to get to the You Tube page with the recipe.

At Warp(y) speed no less!

Thank you...all of the info sounds great and is a place to start.

The roommate actually bought a bag of the pre-shredded stuff a couple weeks ago. I used the water-in-blender technique on that stuff to make it smaller...it came out perfect! I've seen it done on TV but was really surprised that it worked so well. I liked how it helped to mellow out the cabbage flavor too.

I'm not overly fond of KFC slaw, it's too candy like.

Of course, that gets kids to eat cabbage, so it's a wash.

but the two of them thin down the Miracle Whip. I think that's why they're in there.

14. You can make your own herb flavored vinegars (and oils)

I like to do this with leftover fresh herbs. I generally use cider vinegar because I always keep plenty of it on hand. The basic process is to wash the herbs, dip them in a diluted bleach solution, rinse, then store them in a mason jar with the vinegar (or oil) for a few weeks and then strain. The Colorado extension office has detailed instructions on how to do it including info on the potential hazards of flavored oils.

from China. I'd rather use fresh herbs in the salad.

And I love cider vinegar, it's what I use. The cheap white vinegar unplugs drains, clears soap scum in the washer, and pretreats wool to accept acid dyes.\.

16. I keep around a gallon each of white vinegar and cider vinegar on hand at any given time

I use cider vinegar for culinary purposes like brines and marinades and white vinegar as a disinfectant and some of the other things you mentioned. Quite often I'll have left over herbs if I have to buy the ones I don't grow so I'm always trying to figure out what to do with them. Herbs like tarragon tend to lose quite a bit of their flavor when dried.

3. Here is one I cut from the newspaper years ago...

It's called KFC Slaw.

8 c finely chopped cabbage
1/4 c shredded carrot
2 T minced onion (optional)
1/2 c granulated sugar
1/2 t salt
1/8 t pepper
1/2 c mayo
1/4 c milk
1/4 c buttermilk
1 1/2 T white sugar
1 1/2 t white vinegar
2 1/2 T lemon juice

Chop cabbage, carrot and onion in a food processor into very fine pieces. (I never do this!) Set aside. In a large bowl, combine sugar, salt, pepper, milk, mayo, buttermilk, vinegar, and lemon juice. Beat until smooth. Add the cabbage mixture and blend well. Cover and refrigerate at least two hours before serving.

----

When I have made this, I just shred the cabbage and carrots (I skip the onion) and then pour the dressing on top. I use a large Tupperware bowl and shake the whole thing up. It is a very wet dressing so I shake it every so often to coat. And then I do the same when ready to serve.

Sweet, sour, and very yummy. Got a food processor? Make small bits so that everything gets marinated.

No longer will I pay 3 bucks for 20 cents worth of good food.

Enjoy!

with salt and sugar pulls the water out of the cabbage which makes it runny the next day. Don't like that so I use Smart Balance mayo like salad dressing. Not sweet or salty and the coleslaw keeps without becoming runny. That's my favorite.
