and make the Polish Pizza "upside down" with the dough on top. Like a pot pie of sorts.

They were sort of an open-faced pierogi: kielbasa, of course, farmer's cheese, mushrooms - a big Slavic ingredient, gotta have them - and cabbage. No tomato sauce, as I recall. They may have had potatoes as well, but IMHO they didn't add anything. A dollop of sour cream on top would tie things together.

Or you could go with pickled herring, or beets...

frozen rye bread dough but I don't think I have, I usually cheat and use frozen bread dough though
