It will deform and it might be best to do just a minute at a time, but it won't explode or anything like that.

Melted plastic must be caustic - would be my guess - yet a friend of mine heats up leftovers from restaurants and doesn't see a problem with it.

Melted Styrofoam...just the thought

It doesn't cost much to scrape the leftovers into a bowl.

I've looked at microwaved styrofoam and I've seen spots that are melted where oil has superheated it and I wonder just what chemicals have leached into the food.

No thanks. I'll nuke it in a dish and then wash the dish when I'm done.

I'm lazy but not lazy enough to poison myself.
