They both smell and taste the same to me.
OK, maybe the tuna tastes a tad 'fishier'.
But not much.
Is it just me?
I admit we use both.
Tuna salad.
Chicken salad.
And together with the other ingredients they don't taste 'quite' the same.
How about y'all?

I like the tuna that comes in the shelf stable packages. Seems to have a much better texture and taste. If you can find it at your grocer, get this one:

I think it tastes the best out of all the packaged tuna.

(7,638 posts)foods I can stand. I make mine from a recipe I got from some Guyanese folks.
Saute some onions and garlic. Don't kill them just lightly saute.
Add can of salmon to the pan and one whole Scotch Bonnet peppah chop fine fine. Be careful with the salt, add it and pepper, the black kind to taste.
It is served in Guyana with rice. Usually as a side condiment for the rice. I usually have another mixer of coconut chutney on the side as well. Nice combo.

(43,049 posts)it's not that much cheaper than fresh, but I don't have to worry about it going bad. I load up when it's on sale.
Salmon loaf is good, but I use it mainly for stuffing things like squashes. Or salmonburgers.

(2,825 posts)This would dilute the taste, I think. Of course this soy additive would most likely NOT be in the more costly kind.

(146,218 posts)I think it's because I can easily get the chicken, but not the tuna.
Plus canned tuna doesn't seem very fishy.
Other canned fishes don't appeal to me very much.
But I have gotten quite fond of anchovy paste for caesar salad dressing.
Go figure.

(106,886 posts)I use it crumbled in a feta salad, diced for a sandwich, a filling for hard boiled eggs or just as is w/ lemon and pepper as part of a cold plate assortment. The shredded stuff I can't stand.
