What's for Dinner, Thurs., Sept. 11, 2014

I made soup in the slow cooker. Just tried it. It's OK; not great, but not bad. Friggin' Betty Crocker recipe. That'll teach me.

Recipe recommended cilantro, but it's not right for this dish. It's Five-Spice Pork Soup. I even made my own five-spice.

I plan on roasting cherry tomatoes tonight, too.

Salad to go with the soup: arugula, pine nuts, and shaved parmesan.

Dessert might be a piece of dark chocolate with some red wine.

Not sure what else I'll have...

That depends on what I find at today's Farmer's Market.

Most of us (who had mothers who wouldn't let us near the kitchen because we were so messy) would never have lived to old age without her. Especially the Kitchen Helps and Food Safety Tips pages!

Just like we think our kids would never have made it to adulthood if we hadn't followed Dr. Spock.

Maybe everyone's fasting tonight, LOL.

I am reporting back on my arugula salad. I had no pine nuts, so I used toasted almond slices. It was a terrific salad, so if you're ever without pine nuts for your arugula salad, try sliced almonds! Not slivered--sliced.

And the dark chocolate! With red wine, it's one of my favorite desserts. I used The Dark Chocolate Lover's Bar, which I found at TJs. Label says the chocolate is from the Tumaco region of Columbia. So smooth and rich and priced lower than the one I usually buy.
