The storm is really starting to happen here, but it's OK 'cuz I'm well stocked in every area. For me it will be puree of watercress soup with chicken sausages tonight.
If I'm energetic, I may make a few other types of soups to have stocked in the refrigerator. Mushroom bisque comes to mind.
The wild boar at the party last night was fabulous. It was so tender! Our hostess served it with pasta. Spinach with garlic was the vegetable. Early in the evening, the RG had fixed an appetizer table where we had all kinds of Italian meats, like prosciutto, salami, and a few other items like these interesting little olives from Italy. There were 3 or 4 different types of foccacia that he had various toppings for and one had every taste, even umami. They had unusual items on them, like candied pumpkin seeds and caramelized onion.
One of the toppings was made from a cheese from Colorado's Cowgirl Creamery. The RG said it won the a national award. Fizzgig, maybe you know of this? It was heavenly, and I have a whole jar of sauce made from it. I dipped some pears in it; wow.
So many wines!
Finally, for dessert, one of the guests had made tiramisu. It was a stunningly beautiful dessert and because it wouldn't last until the next day, I had two pieces! This guest is actually a pastry chef, so she knows a thing or two about tiramisu.
It was a great time and certainly a timely, hearty respite from winter.

(146,218 posts)So everything is coming out and either getting eaten or tossed. I'm going to re-provision for a long passage this week and I want that thing as spotless as possible.
The RG's appetizer table is my idea of heaven.
Sounds like you had a great time!
Hope you stay safe and warm, cher.

(2,012 posts)Didn't know we had Cowgirl's Creamery Cheese in Colorado. I think it started in Marin County and has spread to other places. Online says the Moucow cheese is made in Ft. Collins, started by Belgian Beer. Sounds delicious; I'll look for it. Thanks

(20,234 posts)cooked in a cast iron skillet - using this recipe: http://www.organictuscany.org/recipes/desserts/grape-cake
It was good - but super crumbly. I couldn't slice it; it was almost like a cross between cake and granola. Anyone here know what I would need to add to make it hold together more? Another egg?
That was our dessert - for dinner we had burritos with beans, cheese, homemade salsa and more avocado.
I recently had that problem and that's what the RG told me to do. I did it and it worked.
BTW, I checked out that grape pie recipe you posted earlier and noticed this recipe gets rave reviews. Apparently there are many fans for grape pie.

(24,146 posts)there's plenty of hummus, tabbouleh and pasta salad for tonight and the husband's lunch tomorrow.
your meal last night sounds incredible, i bet you had a blast!
i'll have to look into the creamery, but i couldn't find my city on the list of areas they serve. they did mention moucou, which is based here in town. they have tasty cheese.
when i was at the paper here, one of the dairies was suing a former cheesemaker for sharing their trade secrets with his new employer (another cheese outfit in town). i lost my job before it was resolved and never heard anything else about it.
